A Moment in Black Education History
Booker T. Washington was an American educator, author, orator and advisor to the presedents of the United States. He was the first leader of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Insitute (now Tuskegee Univeristy) in Tuskegee, Alabama.
Fanny Jackson Coppin was an African-American educator and missionary and a lifelong advocate for female higher education. In 1869, she became the first African-American woman to become a school principal. She was also, the first African-American superintendent of a school district in the United States.
